Our Active School
The Active School Flag initiative is a Department of Education and Skills initiative which aims to get schools more physically active. Our school community strives to promote physically literate and physically active pupils. Each year staff discuss the areas of physical education which will receive special attention. The children play a key role on the active school committee and as playground leaders in promoting physically active initiatives throughout the school year. We engage with many sporting partnerships including Primary Athletics, Cumann Na mBunscoil, Limerick Primary Basketball, Munster rugby and Cycling Ireland to promote physical activity among our pupils.
Our Motto:
Be Active
Be Cool
Have Fun at School
The Active School Committee
There is always keen interest when it comes to recruiting new members to the Active School Committee. Pupils put together a proposal if they are interested and present it to their teacher and then to the Active School co-ordinator.
We have a marvellous active school committee made up of a selection of pupils from second to sixth class. The committee plays a vital part in planning and organising many initiatives. They also keep all classes informed of developments and activities at school assemblies and through classroom visits. The committee assists with active lines, monitoring PE equipment and keeping records. Equipment needed to run active school week is always organised by the Active school committee.
Pupils who work hard and show leadership are awarded the active school badge.
Playground Leaders
Each year we have a wonderful group of pupils who are willing to sacrifice one lunch break a week to work with Junior classes to promote group games and turn taking. The children show incredible initiative in planning activities and setting up play stations to promote fun and activity among the younger children.
Active Boxes
Every classroom is equipped with an active school box. The Active school committee has a key role in ensuring active boxes are well equipped and restocked. Pupils are encouraged to play and share the equipment during break time.
